Is Hydrogen a Metal or Nonmetal?
Answer: Although hydrogen is an electropositive element, it is a nonmetal because—
- Hydrogen is a gas at a normal temperature,
- Hydrogen is the lightest element,
- Hydrogen is a good conductor of heat and electricity,
- Hydrogen combines with oxygen to form a mild oxide H2O,
- Hydrogen does not form an alkaline oxide,
- Hydrogen does not react with acids.
