Is Diamond a Metal or Nonmetal?
Although diamond is shiny and hard, it is nonmetal because—
- Diamond is not a conductor of heat and electricity,
- Diamond does not produce salts and H2 in reaction with acids,
- Diamond atoms do not lose electrons and become cations,
- The oxide of diamond (CO2) is an acidic oxide.
