Energy can be transformed from one form to another. This change in form of energy is called Energy Transformation.
Example: In a steam engine, coal is burnt to generate steam and the engine runs on that steam. In this case, the chemical energy is first converted into thermal energy by burning coal. Then the generated thermal energy is converted into mechanical energy.

Energy Transformation
Transformation of Potential energy into Kinetic energy
When an object is at a height above the surface, all its energy is stored in the form of potential energy. Now, as the object is thrown downwards, the inertial force of the object gradually decreases and the velocity increases gradually. That is, the potential energy of the object is gradually converted into kinetic energy. Just before touching the ground, the potential energy of the object is zero and the kinetic energy is maximum.
Transformation of Kinetic energy into Potential energy
When an object is thrown upwards from the ground, the object has only kinetic energy but no potential energy at the moment of throwing. As the object rises, its kinetic energy decreases and is converted into potential energy. At the highest position, the kinetic energy of the object is zero and the potential energy is maximum.
