Sulfuric Acid Detection

Sulfuric Acid Detection

A white precipitate of barium sulphate is formed when barium chloride solution is added to a test tube with concentrated or dilute H2SO4. This precipitate is insoluble in HCl or HNO3. Sulfuric acid is detected by this test.

H2SO4 + BaCl2 = BaSO4 ↓ + 2HCl

Sulfuric acid does not react with silver nitrate solution.
